Prescription Renewals

Requests During Office Appointments

When prescription renewals are completed during an in-person or scheduled telephone appointment, the service is covered by OHIP.

To help ensure timely care and avoid additional administrative requests, we encourage patients to discuss any prescription renewal needs during your appointment.

Your physician wishes to track the efficacy and impact of your medications. By reviewing them together, before they run out, you can be sure the right medications and dosages are discussed with you.

Requests Outside of Office Appointments or by Fax from Your Pharmacy

Prescription renewals requested outside of a scheduled appointment are not covered by OHIP and are subject to a fee, unless you are covered via the Annual Block Fee.

Before requesting a renewal, please check with your pharmacy to confirm whether you have any refills remaining. If refills are available, a new prescription is not required.

Please note that the fee will also apply to auto-faxed requests generated by your pharmacy. If you wish your pharmacy not to auto-fax prescriptions, you must inform them.
