What Are Uninsured Services?

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers medically necessary services provided during office visits. However, some services are not insured by OHIP and are therefore considered uninsured services. Fees may apply for these services.

Examples of uninsured services include, but are not limited to:

​

• Travel health consultations and travel vaccinations

• Prescription renewals requested by phone, fax, or through a third party

• Missed or late-cancelled appointments (less than 24 hours' notice)

• Transfer or copying of medical records at a patient's request

• Employment-related medical examinations

• Camp or school physical examinations

• Completion of forms, medical certificates, and sick notes

• Medical-legal reports and correspondence

How Much Are These Services?

 

The Ontario Medical Association provides guidelines to physicians from which they can establish the rates for services.  Some rates may vary by physician. Please ask what the cost for your service is.

Payment for These Services

 

Annual Block Fee Plan

 

Some of our physicians offer an "Annual Block Fee Plan" to cover uninsured services for one year. There is an annual process to make payment which will cover many of the uninsured services for the year.

Pay at Time of Service

You may elect to pay for individual services at the time the service is provided. ​We will provide you an invoice. Sometimes your additional insurance or workplace may cover these fees.​

For your convenience, services not covered by OHIP can be paid for at our office via Debit, Credit or Cash.  You may also pay via our online system. Please request an invoice if one has not been provided to you in person at your appointment or sent to you via our secured email system Ocean.
